Building on the Community Narrative
Delta Force's relationship with Discord didn't start with the SDK — it started with the server. In an earlier case study, Discord and Tencent looked at how the game's official community had grown through the basics: multi-language channels, patch notes, LFG voice comms.
A year later, that foundation has evolved into something more ambitious. Tencent describes its goal as making Discord "a sanctuary for player culture," built on co-creation, co-governance, and co-sharing. Rather than simply hosting players, the team has shifted its entire engagement strategy toward letting the community help build the game's narrative alongside it.

"We steadfastly celebrate player culture here, making sure our players feel firmly supported by providing them with tailored tools and dedicated spaces to showcase their tactical achievements and personal gaming identities." — Jesseca Zhang, Global Publishing Director, Team Jade
That shift shows up most clearly in Tencent's UGC campaigns. With every major version update, the team runs targeted content drives tied to new season features, using Discord's Forum channels to collect player submissions — tactical clips, clutch extractions, "zero-shot pacifist runs." The standout example: Season 8 Community Stories, where the best fan-submitted moments were turned into official brand assets. It's a feedback loop where players supply the highlight reel and Discord supplies the stage.

Account Linking gave that loop a new dimension. Once players could bind their accounts, Tencent unlocked data-driven community initiatives tied directly to individual achievement. One example: a pixel-art-style Delta Force 2025 Recap that let linked players review and one-click share their yearly stats to Discord. That same authenticated pipeline supported the rollout of Delta Force HQ (DFHQ), a web utility featuring Daily Combat Reports and the Red Exhibition Hall. The result, in Tencent's words, was a "massive wave of organic interactions and tactical stat-flexing" across the server.

Deciding to Integrate the Discord Social SDK
Tencent's strategy evolved from supporting an official community server to a full Social SDK integration, driven by a specific frustration: a disjointed experience between the game and the community around it. Relying on external text channels alone meant a player's in-game identity and their social identity lived in two separate places.
The Discord Social SDK gave Tencent the architecture to close that gap — letting a player's in-game identity show up in their social spaces, and letting their Discord friends shape their in-game squads.
Two features anchored the integration:
- Account Linking established a secure, authenticated bridge between a player's game identity and their Discord persona — the prerequisite for personalized web utilities and verifiable community status.
- Unified Friends List (UFL) addressed frictionless coordination, a core need for a squad-based tactical shooter. By surfacing a player's Discord friends list directly in-game, UFL lets players see who was online without swapping platform IDs, lowering the barrier to matchmaking and reinforcing squad-play retention.
Maximizing the Impact for Mobile

Delta Force was among the earliest mobile titles to integrate the Social SDK, and mobile is where the integration's design choices mattered most.
The standout feature was mobile Account Linking. Before the SDK, linking an account on mobile meant getting bounced to an external browser, navigating broken redirects, and re-entering credentials — exactly the kind of multi-step friction that causes mobile players to drop off. The SDK replaced that with single-tap authentication inside the mobile layout itself, making it dramatically easier for players to link their profiles and jump into community events.
Tencent also pointed to Discord's early mobile client account linking functionality as a meaningful unlock. Because mobile players are especially sensitive to friction, a smoother, more secure setup process meant they could claim rewards and connect with fellow players as fluidly as their PC counterparts — a shift Tencent credits with a noticeable boost in campaign activation.
Designing for mobile also meant designing for a fundamentally different play pattern. While PC and console players can keep Discord running alongside the game across multiple monitors or background apps, mobile players are working with a single screen and fragmented sessions — meaning any Discord interaction, like checking a stats summary or sharing a match card, has to happen fast, without knocking players out of their game session.
That reality shaped Tencent's engineering priorities. The team's biggest mobile-specific challenge was handling OS-level behavior, which included aggressive background process limits and sudden network switches (Wi-Fi to cellular, for instance) that caused token exchange failures mid-session. Tencent solved this with a token caching and automated retry system between the mobile client and Delta Force’s backend, paired with visually optimized, scannable summary cards designed specifically for the Discord mobile app.
Overall Impact
With Account Linking and the Unified Friends List in place, Tencent has observed a shift toward higher-cohesion squad dynamics — players forming longer-term tactical squads and crews. Because a player's Discord presence now connects to a verified in-game status, the server has become a space where players regularly share tactical achievements, which, in turn, has raised the overall quality of peer support in the community.
After the social layer integration went live, Tencent also observed an increase in active game days and a boost in squad play.
The success of Delta Force mobile by Tencent demonstrated that Discord's social layer acts as a measurable lever for retention and engagement, rather than simply a set of social features.

What's Next
Keep an eye out for two major Delta Force moments coming summer 2026. The first is the debut of Uluru’s ultimate appearance: Fury, a premium skin with a molten alloy texture, lava-themed gadget coatings, along with custom entry and squad animations.

The second is the climax of the Delta Force × Rainbow Six Siege crossover, built around a staple of tactical shooters — the breach — offering players operator bundles, weapon skins, and other crossover rewards through in-game events.
